A BETTER TYPE OF PLASTIC
SOLMERATM was developed to save the world from plastic pollution. Home to the only thermally activated polymer decomposition technology, SOLMERA provides a new way to address the persistence of plastics in our environment. While most plastic alternatives can cost four times more than their standard plastic counterparts, SOLMERATM products provide the same value and barely raise the price.
Our drop-in solution enables products to rapidly decompose after shelf life, leaving no trace of microplastics. With SOLMERATM, what used to be plastic becomes water, carbon dioxide, and less than 1% harmless salts. This decomposition process takes on average just 2 years, after a pre-programmed shelf life of two or four years. No sorting and disposal in scarce industrial composting facilities. No change in consumer experience. No microplastic leftovers. Just packaging that expires, as nature always intended.
PRODUCT APPLICATIONS
While SOLMERATM is working to develop solutions that address all common single-use plastics, we have chosen to tackle the most problematic plastics first; PP and PE. Companies wishing to reduce the environmental impact of their packaging struggle to find alternatives for these hard-to-recycle items. With SOLMERA’s first generation polymer decomposition technology, the focus is on these common low-cost rigid and flexible products, primarily for food, medical, and agricultural uses.
HOW SOLMERATM WORKS
PRODUCTION
Directly mixed into existing pellets at a dosage of only one to two percent.
Programmable Shelf Life
Products are programmed to last two or four years, based on shelf life needed.
Use + Recycling Option
Commonly recycled packaging is printed with a ‘recycle by’ date to inform consumers.
Landfill
When recycling is not an option, dispose as usual. No special facility or sorting needed.
Thermal Activation
Anywhere above room temperature, molecular breakdown will begin.
Decomposition and Biodegradation
Broken polymer chains are digested by bacteria, leaving behind only water, carbon dioxide, and harmless salts.
